Pretzel Circuit

Today in class we did a representation of a circuit by using people, pretzels and containers. The people represented electrons by moving around the room which represents the circuit itself. The pretzels were carried by the people or electrons and dropped into the containers. The line of people traveled in the same direction in a closed circuit. Therefore this activity represented an electrical circuit.

No Wires world

A world without wires would be very interesting for many reasons. So many aspects of life would be changed. cool things such as unlimited space between power outlets and what you need to give power to would create endless possibilities. but having electricity flowing all over would be terribly dangerous for many reason. Animals and humans could be easily electrocuted because of the lack of an insulator to protects them from the electricity going through their body's.

Electricity Vocabulary

Electricity is a form of energy made up of protons, electrons and neutrons. Conductors are objects such as metal that allow electricity to flow freely through them. Insulators are objects such as wood that stop the flow of electricity. Protons are positive charges, Electrons are negative charges and Neutrons are neutral charges. Together they create electricity.

Electricity So Far

So far I have learned electricity is energy used for lights and to power objects. I learned electricity can be measured in volts, watts, or amps. I also know electricity can be harnessed many different ways. For example electricity is harnessed mainly through burning coal but there are also other ways such as nuclear,solar,hydro-power and windmills can also be used to harness electricity. That is what I know so far about electricity.

Van De Graaff

Today we learned about static electricity and we experimented with a Van De Graaff generator. The generator created a visible spark between the generator and a metal ball that was around the generator. The generator had many positive charges where as the smaller metal ball held around the generator had many negative charges. I believe it would be interesting to see how the size of the metal could affect the spark created. For example I want to see the affect on the spark if a paper clip is used instead of the smaller metal ball.

Insulators & Conductors

Insulators and Conductors share two main differences. An insulator does not let electrons flow through it freely. Whereas a conductor lets electrons flow freely through it. An example of a Insulator that I came across today was a pencil, the reason a pencil is an insulator is because it is made wood and all wood stops the flow of electrons. An example of a conductor I came across today was a soda can, the reason the soda can is a conductor is because it is made of aluminum which is a metal and all metals let electrons flow through them therefore they are conductors.

Electric Light

Today in class we attempted to light a bulb using only a battery, wire, and bulb. This can be done by connecting the wire to one end of the battery and connecting the other end of the wire to the bulb, when you touch the bulb to the other end of the battery the bulb will light up. The reason for this is the energy from the battery is allowed to flow through the wire into the bulb and when the bulb is connected to the opposite charge light is created.

Mu Friction

Friction occurs every time two objects come into contact. Friction is the reason why a soccer ball wont keep rolling on forever. Friction technology is also used in shoes to complete different tasks. For example soccer cleats are made to create friction in grass to better play soccer. Where as hiking shoes are made with materials to create friction to better climb.

Another Planet

My planet name is Detis. This planet is twice the size of earth and can also maintain human life. Planet Detis is different from earth because of its size and weight. It is also different from earth because of its gravitational pull which would be double that of earth because it is double the size. Although the pull of gravity on your body would be proportional.
