Mass and Newtons first law

Find three examples in your life that show the correlation between inertia and Newton’s 1st Law, and the amount of mass something has. For each example describe why it shows inertia, and how the amount of mass affects how it behaves.

  • One example I have experienced in my life that shows the correlation between inertia and Newtons 1st Law is riding a bike because when i attempted to use the breaks it would take a few seconds for the bike to come to a complete stop. This shows a correlation because the bike was in motion and wanted to stay in motion.
  • Another example is turning off a fan because when a fan is turned off the motion of the blades continues for a while therefore it is and example of inertia and Newtons 1st Law.
  • Lastly I notice when I kick a ball down a hill the ball will continue to roll until an unbalanced force like friction stops it.

Inertia Investigation

Describe and explain 3 instances in your day where you saw inertia.Make at least one example where something continued to move and on that stayed still.

  • One example of inertia I observed is a moving car. This is an example of inertia because the car is an object in motion
  • Another example of inertia is a large rock sitting in grass. This is an example of inertia because the rock is an object at rest therefore it's an example of inertia.
  • A plane in mid flight is an example of inertia because it is moving at a constant rate.

Balanced and unbalanced

Find an example of two freed body diagrams one that is balanced and on that is unbalanced. For each, describe the forces that are on them and what makes them balanced or unbalanced.

This is an example of a balanced free body diagram. The reason this free body diagram is balances is because all the forces included in the free body diagram are equal and balanced.

This is an example of an unbalanced free body diagram. The reason this free body diagram is unbalanced is because not all of the forces are balanced.

Free Body Diagrams

Question: Post or provide a link to a free body diagram you found online. First, describe what the object is and how it's moving. Then name and describe the forces that are shown on the diagram.

Answer: This free body diagram is an object being pushed to the right. I know this because the Fnorm is equal to Fgrav so the is nothing pulling it further up or down than gravity and normal force already are. Also Ffrict and Fapp show the object is being pushed.

Vectar and Scalar

Question:Explain the difference between vector and scalar and find an example of each that we did not cover in class (you can use the internet or pull from your own life)

Answer: The main difference between a vectar and a scalar is a scalar can be described by just magnitude, size,or a number. Where as a vectar is described with magnitude as well as direction. That is the main difference between vectar and scalar.

Four Forces

Question: Describe each of the four types of forces that we did in class in your own words.  For each one, give the description and an example of it in your life.

Answer:
Tension- Tension is a force that is pulling or stretching something.
Applied Force-  Applied force is pressure being put on an object caused by another object.
Gravity- Gravity is a force that constantly pulls on earth.
Normal Force- Normal force is force being put on an object in contact with another object.

HW blog GUESS METHOD

List the 5 steps of the GUESS Method. On each step explain it in your own words and describe what you used to do for this part when doing a written response question.
G-(Given) write what is given in the question
U-(Unknown) find what needs to be solved
E-(Equation) state the formula you will use rearrange until tour unknown is on the left
S-(Substitute)write the equation out
S-(solve)

HW blog Acceleration

A sports car and a school bus are stopped at a traffic light. Use our physics vocabulary words (correctly) to completely explain the differences and similarities of the motion of these two vehicles as each goes from a stop to the speed limit of 30 MPH. Also describe the differences and similarities as they stop at the next red light.

The sports car will quickly accelerate ahead of the school bus because is doesn't have as much weight to pull. Both cars will eventually go at the same speed if they both go 30 MPH. When stopping the school bus will have to slow down further away from the stop light because it will take longer for the school bus to come to a complete stop than the sports car would.

HW Blog Modeling Acceleration

Find a picture of a model of acceleration online. Provide the link to the model and explain how it shows acceleration. Is it a good model? How can you tell the difference between different acceleration with this model?

This picture Models a dot moving at different speeds.  The first line shows the dots moving at a constant speed. The second line shows the dots accelerating. And the final line shows the dots accelerating a lot. This is a good model of acceleration because it shows multiple speeds and acceleration rates.
